Audio Mixing Program

90 HOURS (10 WEEKS)

The program leads to a certificate in Audio Mixing. Intensive practical and theoretical training gives students a solid understanding in all aspects of audio mixing to provide students with skills that are necessary for becoming a successful studio mixing engineer. Students attending this program will learn both the technical and creative sides of the audio mixing process and will be expected to complete several mixing projects.

  • Introduction to Musical Instruments and Frequency Response
  • Applying Equalization in the mix -When and How Much
  • Introduction to using Special Effects (Reverb, Echo, Delay, etc.)
  • Introduction to using Compressors and Noise Gates
  • Putting the Stereo Mix on Canvas
  • Hands-on Skills Training

Mixing Program Lecture and Hands-On Skills Training Components

The Mixing Program consists of the following lecture and Hands-On Skills Training sequences:

  1. Introduction to musical instruments and frequency response (9 HRS)
  2. Understanding Equalization: When and how to apply such (9 HRS)
  3. Special Effects in the mix: When and how to apply such (9 HRS)
  4. How to use Compressors and Noise Gates in the mix (9 HRS)
  5. Hands-on Lab Time (54 HRS)
